 nter-gatherer mobility patterns and socio-economic organisation are still 
 at the backbone of all Palaeolithic research. In the 1970s and 80s several
  regional studies approached the topic of Levantine settlement patterns re
 aching differing conclusions. This study is the first to include all so fa
 r known and published Levantine Upper Palaeolithic sites in a comprehensiv
 e evaluation of settlement patterns taking into account the spatial site p
 reservation and recovery conditions\, distribution of vital resources as w
 ater and lithic raw material\, the climatic and environmental development\
 , locational factors of the sites as well as the working time and diversit
 y of the recovered tool assemblages to assess the synchronic development o
 f the different Levantine Upper Palaeolithic technocomplexes. These result
 s are contrasted with the in-depth diachronic analysis of a small regional
  case study in southern Jordan\, the Wadi Sabra\, excavated by the CRC806 
 of the University of Cologne\, Bonn and Aachen. Four exceptional assemblag
 es are presented illustrating the techno-typological progression of the Le
 vantine Upper- to the Epipalaeolithic. Finally\, the data is compared to c
 entral European Rhenish sites raising important discussion points about cl
 imate determinism and adaptability of different settlement systems.Zugangs
