SUMMARY:“(Wo)Man in the fields: The journey of human remains from excavat
 ion to bioarchaeological processing”
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Vortrag auf Einladung des Arbeitskreises&nbsp\;Osteoarchäologi
 e und Evolutionäre Anthropologie:&nbsp\;Participating in archaeological e
xcavations provides anthropologists with a uniqueopportunity to gain exper
tise in various fieldwork tasks related to human remains and theircontexts
. This hands-on experience involves a specialized learning process to iden
tify thedetails needed to understand funerary practices or biological chan
ges that bones can indicate.Gaining this perspective not only benefits fut
ure anthropological analyses but also introducesanthropologists into archa
eological problems and methods\, especially regarding burialcontexts. Over
the past two decades\, as methods from various fields ofanthropology - in
cluding archaeothanatology\, forensic science\, and taphonomy - haveincrea
singly converged\, these practical experiences have laid a strong foundati
on for ongoinggrowth and development. The rapid advancement of field recor
ding techniques\, in botharchaeological and forensic fields\, has also ope
ned new opportunities for understandingancient mortuary practices. The pres
entation aims to provide insight into this workflow by offering a framewor
k to viewhuman burials not only as a static time capsule but also as a win
dow into the biologicalprocesses and cultural motives of the people who on
ce lived and formed them.It might motivate archaeologists and others inter
ested in bioarchaeology to consider how wecan use field experience more wi
dely in planning and preparing analyses\, as well as indeveloping project
ideas and interpretations. All these serve as starting points that can hel
pfoster closer collaboration with archaeological teams and other scientifi
c disciplines to createtargeted research questions.Zugangsdaten:\nTeilnahm
