SUMMARY:The Upper Paleolithic in Eastern Romania. Insight from the Bistri
 ța and Prut Valleys
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Vortrag auf Einladung des AK Paläolithikum:&nbsp\;The Upper Pa
leolithic in Eastern Romania (ca. 50\,000–10\,000 BP) holds great potent
ial to inform broader discussions on human adaptation and cultural change
during the Late Pleistocene. This study examines the archaeological record
of the Bistrița and Prut valleys\, regions with a notable concentration
of Paleolithic sites. Recent interdisciplinary investigations - combining
lithic analysis\, statistical approaches\, and absolute dating-have contri
buted to a reassessment\nof earlier frameworks. \nKey sites such as Bistri
cioara Lutărie III and Cotu Miculinți provide important data on technolo
gical practices and settlement strategies associated with Upper Paleolithi
c technocomplexes. Variability in raw material procurement\, tool producti
on\, and mobility patterns reflect diverse adaptive responses to environme
ntal constraints.\nPleistocene climatic fluctuations\, particularly during
the Last Glacial Maximum\, significantly\ninfluenced settlement and subsi
stence strategies. Evidence indicates a strategic focus on\nriverine lands
capes\, which offered relatively stable resources within a shifting ecolog
ical\nframework. Chronological refinements reveal both episodes of occupat
ional continuity and\ndisruptions\, the latter likely tied to climatic str
ess. Eastern Romania’s position between Central\nand Eastern Europe enha
nces its relevance for understanding broader patterns of Upper\nPaleolithi
c human behavior and technological change.\n\nZugangsdaten:\nTeilnahme üb
