SUMMARY:Riding a dead horse? New archaeological and geochemical studies on
 La Hoguette pottery
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Der AK Neolithikum/Bronzezeit lädt herzlich zum Vortrag von Mi
chaela Schauer ein: Riding a dead horse? New archaeological and geochemic
al studies on La Hoguette pottery\n\nSince its definition in the late 1980
 s\, the incised\, pointed-based and often bone-tempered La Hoguette\npotte
ry has been central to discussions of the emergence of Early Western Potte
ry. This unique type of\npottery emerged around 5\,500 BC on the western e
dge of the earliest Linearbandkeramik (LBK).\nHowever\, the nature of La H
oguette remains uncertain: it could be a culture\, a phenomenon\, or simpl
y\na special type of LBK pottery. Despite extensive efforts to solidify th
e definition of La Hoguette as a\ndistinct culture\, there has been a lack
of comprehensive comparison between La Hoguette pottery and\nthe LBK pott
ery tradition\, despite most La Hoguette finds being made in LBK settlemen
ts. Recent\narchaeological and geochemical studies using portable X-ray fl
uorescence (p-XRF) now address this\nresearch gap. This presentation will
discuss what it would mean for our understanding and interpretation\nof th
e Early Western Neolithic if La Hoguette and LBK pottery were not as diffe
rent as previously thought.Teilnahme über Zoom: https://univienna.zoom.u
